Burnet County is one of the 254 county of Texas, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 34147 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 44488, It is the 68th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Texas. The county comprises an area of 1020.96 sq mi (2644.27 kmē), of which, 996.04 square miles (2579.73 kmē) of it is land and 24.93 square miles (64.57 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 77th largest by total area in Texas.

The population density was 34.3 people per square mile (13.24/kmē), it would be the 95th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Texas. There were 15933 housing units at an average density of 16 per square mile (6.18/kmē). The average household size was 2.53 persons, and the average family size was 2.94 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.5% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 26% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.3 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 44488, The racial makeup of the county was 42515 White, 988 Black or African American, 291 American Indian, 222 Asian, 29 Native Hawaiian, and 443 from two or more races.
