Burlington City, Chittenden County, Vermont is a city located in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 38889 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 38897, It is the largest by population in the U.S. state of Vermont. The city extends throughout a territory of 15.48 mi˛ (40.09 sq km ), of which, 10.56 square miles (27.35 sq km) of it is land and 4.92 square miles (12.74 sq km) of it is water, it is the second largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Vermont.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 38889 people, 15885 households, and 7055 families residing in the city. The population density was 3682 people per square mile (1421.63/km˛), it is third most densely populated city in Vermont. There were 16395 housing units at an average density of 1552.6 per square mile (599.46/km˛). The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 2.86. In the Burlington City, 16.3% of the population was under the age of 18, 25.4% were 18 to 24, 31% were 25 to 44, 16.8% were 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.7 males. The median age of the city's population was 29.2 years, the median age of male residents at 28.6 and the median age of female residents at 30. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 35883 White, 693 Black or African American, 182 American Indian, 1031 Asian, 8 Native Hawaiian, 881 from two or more races and 211 Ohter races.
