Burlington City, Des Moines County, Iowa is a city located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of the city was 26839 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 25327, making it Iowa's 17th largest. Its area is just over 14.83 mi˛ (38.41 square kilometre), of which, 14.05 square miles (36.39 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.78 square miles (2.02 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 22nd largest by area in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is ranks 17 in the size of its inland waterways in Iowa.

As of the census of 2000, there were 26839 people, 11102 households, and 7110 families residing in the city. The population density was 1910.1 people per square mile (737.49/km˛), giving it the 38th most densely populated city among the Iowa. There were 11985 housing units at an average density of 853 per square mile (329.35/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.36 persons, and the average family size was 2.94 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 24.5% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
