Burleigh County is one of the 53 county of North Dakota, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 69416 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 78689, making it the second most populous county in North Dakota. The county encompasses an area of 1668.04 mi˛ (4320.2 square kilometre ), of which, 1633.09 square miles (4229.68 square kilometre) of it is land and 34.95 square miles (90.52 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 12th largest by area in the U.S. state of North Dakota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 69416 people in the county, organized into 27670 households, and 18198 families living in the county. The population density was 42.5 people per square mile (16.41/km˛), it is the third most densely populated county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. There were 29003 housing units at an average density of 17.8 per square mile (6.87/km˛). The average household size was 2.42 persons, and the average family size was 2.99 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 11% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.5 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 78689, The racial makeup of the county was 73467 White, 515 Black or African American, 3437 American Indian, 486 Asian, 24 Native Hawaiian, and 760 from two or more races.
