According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 1820, It is the seventh least populous county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. It is spread over 1129.26 sq mi (2924.77 sq km), of which, 1103.53 square miles (2858.13 sq km ) of it is land and 25.73 square miles (66.64 sq km) of it is water, making it the 32nd largest by size in North Dakota.
