Burke County, Georgia is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 22243. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 22732, It is the 79th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Georgia. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 834.99 square miles (2162.61 sq km), of which, 830.47 square miles (2150.91 sq km) of it is land and 4.52 square miles (11.71 sq km) of it is water, giving it the second largest by total area among Georgia's county.

For every 100 females there were 90.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.6 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 22732, The racial makeup of the county was 10990 White, 11402 Black or African American, 53 American Indian, 63 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 220 from two or more races.
