Buffalo County, Nebraska is a county located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 42259 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 45354, It is the fifth most populous county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. Its area is just over 975.27 miē (2525.94 kmē), of which, 967.99 square miles (2507.08 kmē) of it is land and 7.28 square miles (18.86 kmē) of it is water, it is the 18th largest by area in the U.S. state of Nebraska.

The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 45354, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 44019 White, 415 Black or African American, 193 American Indian, 324 Asian, 18 Native Hawaiian, and 385 from two or more races.
