Buchanan County is a county located in the United States of Missouri. As of 2000 the population was 85998. Its population was estimated at 89408 in July 2008, It is the 12th largest in terms of population. Its area is just over 414.57 square miles (1073.73 kmē), of which, 409.73 square miles (1061.2 kmē) of it is land and 4.84 square miles (12.54 kmē) of it is water, making it Missouri's seventh smallest county by total area.

The population density was 209.9 people per square mile (81.04/kmē), giving it the eighth most densely populated county among the Missouri. There were 36574 housing units at an average density of 89.3 per square mile (34.48/kmē). The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.98. In the Buchanan County, 24.3% of the population was under the age of 18, 11% were 18 to 24, 28.5% were 25 to 44, 21.2% were 45 to 64, and 15% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 89408, The racial makeup of the county was 82995 White, 4108 Black or African American, 415 American Indian, 516 Asian, 22 Native Hawaiian, and 1352 from two or more races.
