Brown County is a county in the United States of Texas. In 2000, county's population was 37674 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 38379, making it Texas's 76th largest county. The county encompasses an area of 956.94 mi˛ (2478.46 square kilometre ), of which, 943.85 square miles (2444.56 square kilometre) of it is land and 13.08 square miles (33.88 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 97th largest by area in the U.S. state of Texas.

In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 25.8% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.1 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 38379, The racial makeup of the county was 35827 White, 1585 Black or African American, 253 American Indian, 249 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 460 from two or more races.
