Bronx County is a county located in New York, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. It is home to over 1332650 people (2000 census). The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 1391903, It is the fifth largest county by population in the U.S. state of New York. It covers total area of 57.43 miē (148.74 kmē), of which, 42.03 square miles (108.86 kmē) of it is land and 15.4 square miles (39.89 kmē) of it is water, making it New York's second smallest county by total area.


As of the census of 2000, there were 1332650 people, 463212 households, and 315090 families residing in the county. The population density was 31709.3 people per square mile (12243.03/kmē), it is New York's third most densely populated county. There were 490659 housing units at an average density of 11674.8 per square mile (4507.67/kmē). The average household size was 2.78 persons, and the average family size was 3.37 persons. In the Bronx County, 29.8% of the population was under the age of 18, 10.6% were 18 to 24, 30.7% were 25 to 44, 18.8% were 45 to 64, and 10.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 87 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.7 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 1391903, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 49.59% White, 42.97% Black or African American, 1.19% American Indian, 3.73% Asian, 0.26% Native Hawaiian, and 2.26% from two or more races.
