Broadwater County is a one of the county from Montana's 56 counties, located in Western Region (Mountain) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 4385 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 4704, It is 35th most populous county in Montana. It is spread over 1238.94 square miles (3208.84 sq km), of which, 1191.35 square miles (3085.58 sq km ) of it is land and 47.59 square miles (123.26 sq km) of it is water, makes it the seventh smallest by total area in Montana. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in Montana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4385 people, 1752 households, and 1270 families residing in the county. The population density was 3.7 people per square mile (1.43/kmē), making its Montana's 22nd most densely populated county. There were 2002 housing units at an average density of 1.7 per square mile (0.66/kmē). The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.91. In the Broadwater County, 25.2% of the population was under the age of 18, 4.8% were 18 to 24, 26.2% were 25 to 44, 27.4% were 45 to 64, and 16.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 104 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.7 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 4704, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.19% White, 0.26% Black or African American, 1.32% American Indian, 0.11% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 1.06% from two or more races.
