It is tenth most populous in Rhode Island. The census designated place has a total area of 20.63 sq mi (53.43 square kilometre), of which, 10.11 square miles (26.18 square kilometre) of it is land and 10.52 square miles (27.25 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the third largest by area in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Rhode Island.
