Brewster County is one of the 254 county of Texas, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 8866 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 9331 in July 2008, giving it the 169th largest population among Texas's county. Its area is just over 6192.78 mi˛ (16039.23 square kilometre), of which, 6192.61 square miles (16038.79 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.18 square miles (0.47 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the largest by total area in Texas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8866 people, 3669 households, and 2216 families residing in the county. The population density was 1.4 people per square mile (0.54/km˛), it is the 13th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Texas. There were 4614 housing units at an average density of 0.7 per square mile (0.27/km˛). The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.96. In the county the population was spread out, with 22.2% under the age of 18, 14.8% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 101 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 101.6 females. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 9331, The racial makeup of the county was 8812 White, 233 Black or African American, 92 American Indian, 42 Asian, 7 Native Hawaiian, and 145 from two or more races.
