Brevard County is a county located in the United States of Florida. The county has a population of 476230 as per the 2000 census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 536521, making it the tenth most populous county in Florida. It covers total area of 1556.95 mi˛ (4032.48 sq km), of which, 1018.19 square miles (2637.1 sq km) of it is land and 538.76 square miles (1395.38 sq km) of it is water, makes it the seventh largest by total area in Florida. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Florida.

As of the census of 2000, there were 476230 people in the county, organized into 198195 households, and 132480 families residing in the county. The population density was 467.7 people per square mile (180.58/km˛), giving it the 11th most densely populated county among the Florida. There were 222072 housing units at an average density of 218.1 per square mile (84.21/km˛). The average household size was 2.35 people, and the average family size was 2.84 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 22% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 19.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 536521, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 85.63% White, 10.13% Black or African American, 0.45% American Indian, 2% Asian, 0.08% Native Hawaiian, and 1.71% from two or more races.
