The county encompasses an area of 1597.44 square miles (4137.35 sq km ), of which, 1386.4 square miles (3590.76 sq km) of it is land and 211.04 square miles (546.59 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 17th largest by total area in Texas. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in Texas.
