Brandenburg


Brandenburg is bordered by Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the north, Poland in theMap of Brandenburg in Germany east, the Free State of Saxony in the south, Saxony-Anhalt in the west, and Lower Saxony in the northwest. Brandenburg is the fifth largest federal state of Germany by area, with an area of 29,480 square kilometres (11,382 sq mi). It is tenth largest in population among the Germany, with 2.54 million inhabitants.  There are 86 inhabitants living in Brandenburg per square kilometre (Germany average: 230). It is divided up into 14 rural districts and 4 urban districts. Its capital is Potsdam.

Brandenburg PopulationThe population of Brandenburg is 2,535,737 (2008), of which 1,279,755 is female and 1,255,982 is male, total population down 0.47 per cent over a year earlier. This was due to more deaths than births. In 2006, the birth rate was 7 per 1000. Brandenburg Population AgeingThe death rate is increase from 10.2 per 1000 in 2005 to 10.3 per 1000 in 2006.  In 2008, 10.85 percent of the population under the age of 15, rose from 10.66 per cent over a previous year. The proportion of people aged 65 and over rose from 20.73 per cent to 21.33 per cent. Correspondingly, the median age (aged 15-64) of the population fell from 68.60 to 67.82 over the same period. The overall dependency ratio, increased from 457 per 1000 in 2007 to 474 per 1000 in 2008. The Sex ratio of total population is 0.981 male(s)/female.

 



Brandenburg is the 11th largest in Brandenburg GDP : Services, Industries and Agricultureboth nominal GDP and GDP (PPP) among the Germany. Its nominal GDP per capita is €19700, it is ranked as the 2nd lowest economy by nominal GDP per capita in Germany, its GDP purchasing power parity (PPP) per capita is €19100,  ranked 15th among the Germany. Total GDP of Brandenburg is €50 billion, of which service sector contributes around 73.71%, industry 24.61%, and agriculture 1.68%. Its real annual growth rate is 1.3 in 2006, rose from 0.9 over a previous year. Its income of household was 15450 Euros per inhabitant in 2006. The unemployment rate has recently decreased from 19.2% in 2004 to 13.8% in 2007.

Brandenburg EducatiionRegarding to the state road network, in 2008 there were 12,447 km of roadways in Brandenburg, including 790 km of motorways. In 2007, about 1.46 million passenger cars (equal to 575 cars per 1,000 people) and 1.64 million road good vehicles circulated on the national road network. The state railway network, in 2008 totalled 2835 km of which 1643 km is electrified. The state inland waterways network comprised 1205 km of navigable rivers and channells. In 2006 there were approximately 44 airports, carries 6 million passengers, up 20.21 per cent over a year earlier.

It contributes to the rapidly increasing tourism sector, with around 2.6 million tourists arrivals in 2008. In 2007, 0.44 millions pupils and students, 18% of the total population, are in the education system. Of which, percentage of enrollment student are in, 15% pre-primary, 18% primary, 29%  lower secondary, 23% higher secondary, 4% post secondary and 11% tertiary.
