Branch County is a United States county located in the United States of Michigan. The county has a population of 45787 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 45726, giving it the 38th largest population among Michigan's county. The county spans an area of 519.49 mi˛ (1345.47 sq km), of which, 507.41 square miles (1314.19 sq km) of it is land and 12.08 square miles (31.29 sq km) of it is water, makes it the third smallest by total area in Michigan.

As of the census of 2000, there were 45787 people, 16349 households, and 11570 families living in the county. The population density was 90.2 people per square mile (34.83/km˛), it is Michigan's 33rd most densely populated county. There were 19822 housing units at an average density of 39.1 per square mile (15.1/km˛). The average household size was 2.61 persons, and the average family size was 3.08 persons. In the county Age distribution was 25.5% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 45726, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 42776 White, 1758 Black or African American, 257 American Indian, 385 Asian, 10 Native Hawaiian, and 540 from two or more races.
