Bracken County, Kentucky is a county of the United States of Kentucky. The population of the county was 8279 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 8569, It is the 15th least populous county in the U.S. state of Kentucky. Its area is just over 208.89 mi˛ (541.02 sq km), of which, 203.22 square miles (526.34 sq km) of it is land and 5.67 square miles (14.69 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 22nd smallest by total area in Kentucky.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 8279 people, 3228 households, and 2346 families residing in the county. The population density was 40.7 people per square mile (15.71/km˛), it is 39th least densely populated county in Kentucky. There were 3715 housing units at an average density of 18.3 per square mile (7.07/km˛). The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3. In the Bracken County, 25.5% of the population was under the age of 18, 8.4% were 18 to 24, 29.5% were 25 to 44, 23% were 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.9 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 8569, The racial makeup of the county was 98.28% White, 0.93% Black or African American, 0.25% American Indian, 0.06% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 0.44% from two or more races.
