Box Elder County is one of the 29 county of Utah, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. In 2000, the population was 42745. In July 2008, its estimated population was 49015, It is the eighth most populous county in the U.S. state of Utah. The county comprises an area of 6729.03 miē (17428.11 kmē), of which, 5723.34 square miles (14823.38 kmē) of it is land and 1005.69 square miles (2604.73 kmē) of it is water, it is the fourth largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in Utah.

As of the census of 2000, there were 42745 people in the county, organized into 13144 households, and 10809 families living in the county. The population density was 7.5 people per square mile (2.9/kmē), it is 14th most densely populated county in Utah. There were 14209 housing units at an average density of 2.5 per square mile (0.97/kmē). The average household size was 3.22 and the average family size was 3.63. In the county the population was spread out, with 36.1% under the age of 18, 10.5% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 17.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.9 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 49015, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 96.28% White, 0.32% Black or African American, 0.98% American Indian, 1.08% Asian, 0.14% Native Hawaiian, and 1.2% from two or more races.
