Bottineau County is a county in the United States of North Dakota. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 7149 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 6338, making it North Dakota's 20th largest county. Its area is just over 1697.74 square miles (4397.13 kmē), of which, 1668.59 square miles (4321.63 kmē) of it is land and 29.16 square miles (75.52 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 11th largest by total area among North Dakota's county.

The population density was 4.3 people per square mile (1.66/kmē), it is the 25th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. In the Bottineau County, 22.2% of the population was under the age of 18, 8% were 18 to 24, 22.3% were 25 to 44, 26.2% were 45 to 64, and 21.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.2 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 6338, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 96.01% White, 0.28% Black or African American, 2.32% American Indian, 0.32% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.06% from two or more races.
