It covers total area of 89.63 miē (232.14 kmē), of which, 48.43 square miles (125.43 kmē) of it is land and 41.21 square miles (106.73 kmē) of it is water, it is the largest by area in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in Massachusetts.
