Boone County is one of the 93 county of Nebraska, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. Boone County had an official population of 6259 in 2000. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 5446, It is the 52nd largest in terms of population. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 687.25 mi˛ (1779.97 sq km), of which, 686.69 square miles (1778.52 sq km) of it is land and 0.56 square miles (1.45 sq km) of it is water, making it Nebraska's 42nd largest county by total area.

The population density was 9.1 people per square mile (3.51/km˛), giving it the 48th most densely populated county among the Nebraska. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 29.1% under the age of 18, 5% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.4 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 5446, The racial makeup of the county was 5425 White, 3 Black or African American, 3 American Indian, 2 Asian, 2 Native Hawaiian, and 11 from two or more races.
