It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 70823, It is the 20th largest in terms of population. The city spans an area of 20.74 sq mi (53.72 square kilometre), of which, 20.51 square miles (53.12 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.24 square miles (0.62 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 15th largest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois.
