Blue Earth County is one of the 87 county of Minnesota, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 55941 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 60401, giving it the 15th largest population among Minnesota's county. The county comprises an area of 765.9 square miles (1983.67 square kilometre), of which, 752.36 square miles (1948.6 square kilometre) of it is land and 13.54 square miles (35.07 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 32nd largest by total area among Minnesota's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 55941 people, 21062 households, and 12621 families residing in the county. The population density was 74.4 people per square mile (28.73/kmē), it is Minnesota's 17th most densely populated county. There were 21971 housing units at an average density of 29.2 per square mile (11.27/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 2.99 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 21.4% under the age of 18, 22.1% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 100.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 102.7 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 60401, The racial makeup of the county was 56912 White, 1303 Black or African American, 202 American Indian, 1374 Asian, 37 Native Hawaiian, and 573 from two or more races.
