Black River Village is one of the city of Jefferson County, New York, located towards the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. It is home to over 1285 people (2000 census). The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 1363, It is the 323rd least populous in the U.S. state of New York. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.85 square miles (4.79 kmē), of which, 1.81 square miles (4.69 kmē) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 564th largest by total area among New York.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1285 people, 521 households, and 373 families living in the city. The population density was 709.8 people per square mile (274.06/kmē), it is 265th least densely populated city in New York. There were 556 housing units at an average density of 307.2 per square mile (118.61/kmē). The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.89. Age range in the city was well distributed with 25.9% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.8 males. The median age is 37.4 years, the median age of male residents at 36 and the median age of female residents at 39.1. The racial makeup of the city was 91.98% White, 2.65% Black or African American, 0.47% American Indian, 2.72% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 1.63% from two or more races and 0.54% Other races.
