As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 128347, It is Iowa's fourth most populous county. It has total area of 571.91 mi˛ (1481.24 sq km), of which, 567.11 square miles (1468.81 sq km) of it is land and 4.8 square miles (12.43 sq km) of it is water, making it Iowa's 52nd largest county by total area.
