Bismarck City is a United States city located in the Burleigh County, North Dakota, United States. As of 2000 the population was 55532. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 60389, giving it the second largest population among North Dakota. It is spread over 27.41 square miles (70.99 square kilometre), of which, 26.89 square miles (69.64 square kilometre ) of it is land and 0.52 square miles (1.35 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the fourth largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in North Dakota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 55532 residents, 23185 households, and 14435 families in the city. The population density was 2065.2 people per square mile (797.38/kmē), making its North Dakota's tenth most densely populated city. There were 24217 housing units at an average density of 900.6 per square mile (347.72/kmē). The average household size was 2.32 persons, and the average family size was 2.94 persons.
