Big Horn County is a United States county located in the United States of Montana. The county has a population of 12671 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 12841 in July 2008, It is the 14th most populous county in the U.S. state of Montana. It is spread over 5014.65 square miles (12987.88 kmē), of which, 4994.81 square miles (12936.5 kmē ) of it is land and 19.84 square miles (51.39 kmē) of it is water, it is the sixth largest by area in the U.S. state of Montana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 12671 people in the county, organized into 3924 households, and 3033 families residing in the county. The population density was 2.5 people per square mile (0.97/kmē), making it the 30th most densely populated county in Montana. There were 4655 housing units at an average density of 0.9 per square mile (0.35/kmē). The average household size was 3.17 and the average family size was 3.66. In the county the population was spread out, with 35.8% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 8.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 102.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 109.9 females. Its population was estimated at 12841 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 4460 White, 115 Black or African American, 7761 American Indian, 80 Asian, 7 Native Hawaiian, and 418 from two or more races.
