Bessemer City is one of the city of Jefferson County, Alabama, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 29672. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 28542, giving it the 12th largest population among Alabama. It is spread over 40.77 square miles (105.59 square kilometre), of which, 40.7 square miles (105.41 square kilometre ) of it is land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 16th largest by total area in Alabama.
