Berkshire County is a county located in the United States of Massachusetts. As of 2000 the population was 134953. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 129395, It is the fourth least populous county in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. It covers total area of 946.27 square miles (2450.83 sq km), of which, 931.32 square miles (2412.11 sq km) of it is land and 14.95 square miles (38.72 sq km) of it is water, it is the fourth largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 134953 residents, 56006 households, and 35110 families in the county. The population density was 144.9 people per square mile (55.95/kmē), giving it the third least densely populated county among the Massachusetts. There were 66301 housing units at an average density of 71.2 per square mile (27.49/kmē). The average household size was 2.3 people, and the average family size was 2.89 people. In the county Age distribution was 22.4% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.1 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 129395, The racial makeup of the county was 94.32% White, 2.63% Black or African American, 0.18% American Indian, 1.41% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.42% from two or more races.
