Berea City is a city located in Madison County, Kentucky, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The population of the city was 9851 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 14431, It is the 44th largest by population in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The city has a total area of 9.36 mi˛ (24.24 sq km), of which, 9.33 square miles (24.16 sq km) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 sq km) of it is water, it is the 32nd largest by area in the U.S. state of Kentucky.

As of the census of 2000, there were 9851 people in the city, organized into 3693 households, and 2426 families living in the city. The population density was 1055.4 people per square mile (407.49/km˛), it is Kentucky's 246th most densely populated city. There were 4115 housing units at an average density of 441.1 per square mile (170.31/km˛). The average household size was 2.34 people, and the average family size was 2.88 people. In the city the population was spread out, with 21.6% under the age of 18, 20.5% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 19.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 83.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.2 males. The median age of the city's population was 30.5 years, the median age of male residents at 28.1 and the median age of female residents at 32.7. The racial makeup of the city was 92.44% White, 4.3% Black or African American, 0.37% American Indian, 0.87% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, 1.53% from two or more races and 0.48% Other races.
