It is the 27th largest by population in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The census designated place encompasses an area of 7.85 mi˛ (20.33 sq km ), of which, 7.61 square miles (19.71 sq km) of it is land and 0.24 square miles (0.62 sq km) of it is water, it is the 62nd largest by area in the U.S. state of South Carolina.

As of the census of 2000, there were 14158 people, 5630 households, and 3824 families residing in the census designated place. The population density was 1861.6 people per square mile (718.77/km˛), it is 21st most densely populated census designated place in South Carolina.
