Benwood City is one of the city of Marshall County, West Virginia, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. It is home to over 1585 people (2000 census). The July 2008 population estimate is 1431, giving it the 103rd largest population among West Virginia. The city spans an area of 1.84 square miles (4.77 kmē), of which, 1.25 square miles (3.24 kmē) of it is land and 0.59 square miles (1.53 kmē) of it is water, making it West Virginia's 95th largest by total area. It is ranks 12 in the size of its inland waterways in West Virginia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1585 people, 706 households, and 430 families residing in the city. The population density was 1268.7 people per square mile (489.85/kmē), giving it the 116th most densely populated city among the West Virginia. There were 811 housing units at an average density of 648.8 per square mile (250.5/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.25 persons, and the average family size was 2.9 persons.
