Benton County is a county located in the United States of Mississippi. It is home to over 8026 people (2000 census). In July 2008, its estimated population was 8116, It is the third smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It covers total area of 408.65 square miles (1058.4 sq km), of which, 406.79 square miles (1053.58 sq km) of it is land and 1.86 square miles (4.82 sq km) of it is water, makes it the fifth smallest by total area in Mississippi.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8026 people in the county, organized into 2999 households, and 2216 families residing in the county. The population density was 19.7 people per square mile (7.61/kmē), it is the 12th least populated county in terms of population density. There were 3456 housing units at an average density of 8.5 per square mile (3.28/kmē). The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.12. In the county the population was spread out, with 26.9% under the age of 18, 10% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 22% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.8 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 8116, The racial makeup of the county was 64.6% White, 34.17% Black or African American, 0.6% American Indian, 0.06% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.55% from two or more races.
