Benton County is one of the 99 county of Iowa, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 25308 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 26532, It is the 23rd largest county by population in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is spread over 718.45 square miles (1860.78 square kilometre), of which, 716.39 square miles (1855.44 square kilometre ) of it is land and 2.06 square miles (5.34 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 11th largest by area in the U.S. state of Iowa.

As of the census of 2000, there were 25308 people in the county, organized into 9746 households, and 7053 families living in the county. The population density was 35.3 people per square mile (13.63/kmē), giving it the 33rd most densely populated county among the Iowa. There were 10377 housing units at an average density of 14.5 per square mile (5.6/kmē). The average household size was 2.56 people, and the average family size was 3.04 people. The population's age distribution was 27.4% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.8 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 26532, The racial makeup of the county was 26110 White, 127 Black or African American, 48 American Indian, 66 Asian, 9 Native Hawaiian, and 172 from two or more races.
