Bent County, Colorado is a county of the United States of Colorado. The county has a population of 5998 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 5902, It is the 16th least populous county in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county extends throughout a territory of 1541.12 sq mi (3991.48 kmē ), of which, 1513.9 square miles (3920.98 kmē) of it is land and 27.22 square miles (70.5 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 31st largest by total area in Colorado. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Colorado.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5998 people in the county, organized into 2003 households, and 1388 families residing in the county. The population density was 4 people per square mile (1.54/kmē), making its Colorado's 17th least densely populated county. There were 2366 housing units at an average density of 1.6 per square mile (0.62/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.53 persons, and the average family size was 3.07 persons. In the county Age distribution was 23.8% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 77.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 72.1 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 5902, The racial makeup of the county was 5167 White, 411 Black or African American, 178 American Indian, 47 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 99 from two or more races.
