Benson County is a one of the county from North Dakota's 53 counties, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 6964 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 6953, giving it the 18th largest population among North Dakota's county. The county encompasses an area of 1439.27 mi˛ (3727.69 sq km ), of which, 1380.6 square miles (3575.74 sq km) of it is land and 58.68 square miles (151.98 sq km) of it is water, it is the 19th largest by area in the U.S. state of North Dakota.

The population density was 5 people per square mile (1.93/km˛), it would be the 21st most densely populated county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. In the county the population was spread out, with 36.1% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 6953, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 3136 White, 30 Black or African American, 3682 American Indian, 3 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 101 from two or more races.
