As of July 2008, the estimated population was 36382, It is the eighth largest county by population in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is spread over 677.67 mi˛ (1755.16 sq km), of which, 676.27 square miles (1751.53 sq km ) of it is land and 1.4 square miles (3.63 sq km) of it is water, making it Vermont's ninth largest county by total area.
