Bennett County is a county located in South Dakota, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. It is home to over 3574 people (2000 census). It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 3393, It is South Dakota's 45th most populous county. It covers total area of 1190.59 square miles (3083.61 kmē), of which, 1185.29 square miles (3069.89 kmē) of it is land and 5.3 square miles (13.73 kmē) of it is water, it is the 23rd largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 3 people per square mile (1.16/kmē), making it the 18th least densely populated county in South Dakota. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 36.3% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 18% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 3393, The racial makeup of the county was 36.1% White, 0.5% Black or African American, 56.06% American Indian, 0.03% Asian, 0.09% Native Hawaiian, and 7.22% from two or more races.
