Ben Hill County is a county located in Georgia, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The county has a population of 17484 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 17635, giving it the 94th largest population among Georgia's county. The county has a total area of 254.03 sq mi (657.93 kmē), of which, 251.79 square miles (652.13 kmē) of it is land and 2.23 square miles (5.78 kmē) of it is water, it is the 38th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia.

In the county the population was spread out, with 27.5% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 27% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 108.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 113.7 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 17635, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 65.48% White, 33.14% Black or African American, 0.24% American Indian, 0.34% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.78% from two or more races.
