Belmont County, Ohio is a county located in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 70226. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 67975, It is the 37th most populous county in the U.S. state of Ohio. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 541.39 sq mi (1402.19 square kilometre), of which, 537.35 square miles (1391.73 square kilometre) of it is land and 4.04 square miles (10.46 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 24th largest by size in Ohio.

As of the census of 2000, there were 70226 people, 28309 households, and 19263 families living in the county. The population density was 130.7 people per square mile (50.46/kmē), giving it the 38th most densely populated county among the Ohio. There were 31236 housing units at an average density of 58.1 per square mile (22.43/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.37 persons, and the average family size was 2.9 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 21.8% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 103.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 106.8 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 67975, The racial makeup of the county was 63809 White, 3134 Black or African American, 109 American Indian, 269 Asian, 13 Native Hawaiian, and 641 from two or more races.
