Belle Fourche City is one of the city of Butte County, South Dakota, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of the city was 4565 as per the 2000 census data. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 4979, making it South Dakota's 16th largest. It covers total area of 3.23 square miles (8.37 kmē), of which, 3.16 square miles (8.18 kmē) of it is land and 0.08 square miles (0.21 kmē) of it is water, it is the 37th largest by area in the U.S. state of South Dakota. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in South Dakota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4565 people, 1854 households, and 1186 families living in the city. The population density was 1446.9 people per square mile (558.65/kmē), it is 38th most densely populated city in South Dakota. There were 2122 housing units at an average density of 671.5 per square mile (259.27/kmē). The average household size was 2.41 people, and the average family size was 3.04 people.
