Belfast City, Waldo County, Maine is a city located in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. The population of the city was 6381 as per the 2000 census data. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 6721, It is 24th most populous in Maine. It is spread over 38.35 square miles (99.33 sq km), of which, 34.04 square miles (88.16 sq km ) of it is land and 4.32 square miles (11.19 sq km) of it is water, it is the 11th largest by area in the U.S. state of Maine. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Maine.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6381 people, 2765 households, and 1692 families living in the city. The population density was 187.5 people per square mile (72.39/kmē), it is Maine's 11th least densely populated city. There were 3121 housing units at an average density of 91.7 per square mile (35.41/kmē). The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.77. In the city the population was spread out, with 20.9% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 20% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 114.4 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 120.5 females. The median age of the city's population was 43.3 years, The median age of males was 41.5 years, for females the median age was 44.8 years.
