Beaverhead County is one of the 56 county of Montana, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. Beaverhead County had an official population of 9202 in 2000. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 8903, making it the 23rd most populous county in Montana. It has total area of 5572.04 square miles (14431.52 sq km), of which, 5542.31 square miles (14354.52 sq km) of it is land and 29.73 square miles (77 sq km) of it is water, giving it the largest by total area among Montana's county.

The population density was 1.7 people per square mile (0.66/kmē), it would be the 38th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Montana. There were 4571 housing units at an average density of 0.8 per square mile (0.31/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.36 persons, and the average family size was 2.95 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.6% under the age of 18, 11.9% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 95.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 97.6 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 8903, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 96.38% White, 0.22% Black or African American, 1.76% American Indian, 0.2% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.38% from two or more races.
