Bayfield County is a United States county located in the United States of Wisconsin. Bayfield County had an official population of 15013 in 2000. In July 2008, its estimated population was 14926, making it Wisconsin's ninth smallest county. The county has a total area of 2041.53 square miles (5287.54 kmē), of which, 1476.25 square miles (3823.47 kmē) of it is land and 565.28 square miles (1464.07 kmē) of it is water, it is the third largest by area in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Wisconsin.

As of the census of 2000, there were 15013 people in the county, organized into 6207 households, and 4275 families living in the county. The population density was 10.2 people per square mile (3.94/kmē), giving it the third least densely populated county among the Wisconsin. There were 11640 housing units at an average density of 7.9 per square mile (3.05/kmē). The average household size was 2.4 persons, and the average family size was 2.88 persons. In the county Age distribution was 24.6% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 28.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.7 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 14926, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 13092 White, 44 Black or African American, 1498 American Indian, 46 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 245 from two or more races.
