Bayard City is a United States city located in the Grant County, New Mexico, United States. In 2000, the population was 2534. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 2399, It is the 65th largest in terms of population. The city extends throughout a territory of 0.87 square miles (2.25 sq km ), it is the 27th smallest by area in the U.S. state of New Mexico.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2534 people, 457 households, and 284 families living in the city. The population density was 2916.4 people per square mile (1126.03/kmē), it is New Mexico's most densely populated city. There were 1100 housing units at an average density of 1264.4 per square mile (488.19/kmē). The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.07.
