Bay County is a county located in the United States of Florida. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Bay County is home to 148217 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 163946 in July 2008, making it the 28th most populous county in Florida. Its area is just over 1033.27 sq mi (2676.16 square kilometre), of which, 763.68 square miles (1977.92 square kilometre) of it is land and 269.6 square miles (698.26 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 22nd largest by total area among Florida's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 148217 residents, 59597 households, and 40480 families in the county. The population density was 194.1 people per square mile (74.94/kmē), giving it the 28th most densely populated county among the Florida. There were 78435 housing units at an average density of 102.7 per square mile (39.65/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.43 persons, and the average family size was 2.92 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 24% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.8 males. Its population was estimated at 163946 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 136646 White, 19198 Black or African American, 1387 American Indian, 3091 Asian, 147 Native Hawaiian, and 3477 from two or more races.
