Bavaria

Bavaria (Bayern) is located in the southeast of Germany. It is bordered to the north by the Thuringia and Saxony; to the east by the Czech Republic; to the south by Austria; and to the west by Baden-Württemberg and Hesse. Bavaria is the largest federal state of Germany by area, with an area of 70,552 square kilometres (27,240 sq mi). It is second largest in population among the Germany, with 12.52 million inhabitants, after North Rhine-Westphalia (18 million inhabitants).  There are 177 inhabitants living in Bavaria per square kilometre (Germany average: 230). Bavaria is divided up into 7 administrative regions,  71 administrative districts and 25 independent cities. There are a total of 2056 municipalities. Its capital is Munich.

The population of Bavaria is 12,520,332 (2008), of which 6,383,935 is female and 6,136,397 is male, total population up 0.22 per cent over a year earlier. In 2006, the birth rate was 8.4 per 1000, lower than that of 8.6 per 1000 in 2005. The death rate is decrease from 9.6 per 1000 in 2005 to 9.5 per 1000 in 2006.  In 2008, 14.52 percent of the population under the age of 15, fell from 14.80 per cent over a previous year. The proportion of people aged 65 and over rose from 18.90 per cent to 19.12 per cent. Correspondingly, the median age (aged 15-64) of the population rose from 66.29 to 66.35 over the same period. The ratio of people aged under 15 and aged 65 and over to the population of working age (aged 15-64), the overall dependency ratio, decreased from 508 per 1000 in 2007 to 507 per 1000 in 2008, decline in the proportion of young persons aged under 15, which more than offset an increase in the proportion of older persons aged 65 and over in the same period. The Sex ratio of total population is 0.961 male(s)/female.

GDP in 2006 exceeded 414 billion Euros, This makes Bavaria itself one of the largest economies in Europe and 2nd largest in Germany, its ranked second by GDP (PPP).  Its nominal GDP per capita is €33200, it is ranked as the 4th largest economy by nominal GDP per capita in Germany, its GDP purchasing power parity (PPP) per capita is €32200,  ranked 4th among the Germany. Total GDP of Bavaria is €414 billion, of which service sector contributes around 68.58%, industry 30.47%, and agriculture 0.96%. Its real annual growth rate is 3.3 in 2006, rose from 1.7 over a previous year. Its income of household was 23342 Euros per inhabitant in 2006. The unemployment rate has recently decreased from 7% in 2005 to 5.3% in 2007.

Regarding to the state road network, in 2008 there were 41,866 km of roadways in Bavaria, including 2447 km of motorways. In 2007, about 7.64 million passenger cars (equal to 611 cars per 1,000 people) and 8.70 million road good vehicles circulated on the national road network. The state railway network, in 2008 totalled 6679 km of which 3082 km is electrified. The state inland waterways network comprised 705 km of navigable rivers and channells. In 2006 there were approximately 105 airports, carries 34.54 million passengers, up 7.07 per cent over a year earlier.

With around 21.6 million tourists arrivals in 2008, Bavaria is a most popular holiday destination in Germany. In 2007, 2.51 millions pupils and students, 20% of the total population, are in the education system. Of which, percentage of enrollment student are in, 15% pre-primary, 22% primary, 33%  lower secondary, 15% higher secondary, 3% post secondary and 12% tertiary.
