Bartow City is one of the city of Polk County, Florida, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 15340 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 16919, making it the 181st most populous in Florida. Its area is just over 11.37 square miles (29.45 sq km), of which, 11.23 square miles (29.09 sq km) of it is land and 0.14 square miles (0.36 sq km) of it is water, it is the 160th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 15340 people, 5531 households, and 3777 families living in the city. The population density was 1366.5 people per square mile (527.61/kmē), it is 504th most densely populated city in Florida. There were 6099 housing units at an average density of 543.1 per square mile (209.69/kmē). The average household size was 2.49 persons, and the average family size was 3.02 persons. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 9% from 18 to 24, 28% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.4 males. The median age is 37.1 years, The median age of males was 35 years, for females the median age was 39.2 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 10111 White, 4355 Black or African American, 70 American Indian, 141 Asian, 12 Native Hawaiian, 311 from two or more races and 340 Ohter races.
