Barnstable Town City is a town in the Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Barnstable Town City is home to 47821 inhabitants. It is the 24th most populous in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. It covers total area of 76.25 mi˛ (197.49 square kilometre), of which, 60.04 square miles (155.5 square kilometre) of it is land and 16.21 square miles (41.98 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Massachusetts's second largest by total area. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Massachusetts.

As of the census of 2000, there were 47821 people in the town, organized into 19626 households, and 13005 families living in the town. The population density was 796.5 people per square mile (307.53/km˛), it is the 54th least populated town in terms of population density.
